More than 1,000 New Zealanders have been deported by Australia under changes made to the Migration Act in 2014Brian* thought by the time he cashed his first pension cheque he would be comfortably retired in his adopted home of Australia, surrounded by his six children and grandchildren, enjoying a quieter phase of life.Instead the 69-year-old is spending listless days lying on a bed in a one-room shack on the outskirts of Auckland. The first time he set foot in New Zealand in more than 40 years was when he was deported there by Australia in July.
