Its search takes us beyond the uncharted frontiers of the freeway: Julien, our photographer, is intoxicated with speculation, persuades himself that there will be a swimming pool, considers doing a detour to retrieve his inflatable donut. There isn’t one, but there are familiar images: the drag show shines like a beacon in the Cannes night. To go along the show – which I advise sampling: we’ll know it by heart before Sunday – cocktails with facetious names, including one called « The List », which I spill in its entirety on Paloma – from Drag Race – member of the jury for the Queer Palm. Sophie Letourneur, also a member of the jury, wonders why she was chosen – « but I’m a hyper-hetero! It must be because I got Jonathan Cohen pregnant in Énorme« .
The Vertigo has grown up: it no longer is the late refuge of our all-nighters, but a vast base camp where they tend to start, before exploring, for example, the Rideau, where Quentin Dupieux is celebrating his opening. The team isn’t there, as we’re told they’ve been taking a long time over dinner; Thierry Frémaux is, however, since he slipped away before dessert. This new, dark and cramped club offers a strangely familiar physical promiscuity: suddenly, I get it – of course, it’s the straight version of the Vertigo! The revelation sends me off to bed, nonetheless disturbed by a final, urgent call from Julien: « Kev Adams has just been turned away from the Silencio!!! » Scoops don’t sleep.
